# GoChain (GO): how it works, supply and reviews

## In short

- **Type**: Layer-1 blockchain, compatible with Ethereum smart contracts and tools
- **Issuance**: 7 GO per signed block, split evenly among signers; about 44 million new GO a year
- **Risks and caveats**: Block production depends on a small, approved set of signers (a maximum of 50 by design), so the network is permissioned at the consensus level.
- **Checked**: 31 October 2026

## Key facts

## What is GoChain

GoChain is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain whose blocks are signed by a set of approved organisations under a consensus it calls Proof of Reputation. GO is its native token and pays the network's transaction fees.

## Network and consensus

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Layer-1 blockchain, compatible with Ethereum smart contracts and tools |
| Consensus | Proof of Reputation: up to 50 approved organisations run signing nodes |
| Block time | A block is signed every 5 seconds |
| Smart contracts | Yes; Ethereum (EVM) contracts deploy unchanged |
| Runs on | Own mainnet (chain ID 60); GO can also be bridged 1:1 to Base |

## Supply and issuance

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Issuance | 7 GO per signed block, split evenly among signers; about 44 million new GO a year |
| Fee burn | All gas fees are burned |
| Staking rewards | Staking through the official staking site started on 23 February 2022 |

## What GO is used for

- Pays the transaction fee for every transaction on the GoChain network.
- Pays for network services such as running a smart contract, storing a file or transferring tokens.
- Rewards block signers (7 GO per signed block).

## Who develops and governs GoChain

- **Foundation**: GoChain Foundation, described as the developer of the GoChain protocol; press releases are datelined St. Kitts & Nevis
- **Founders**: Travis Reeder, founder of the GoChain Foundation
- **Governance**: A steering committee; signers are chosen by revenue, staff, years in business and funding
- **Open source**: Node software on GitHub; library under LGPL-3.0, binaries under GPL-3.0

## History

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 2017 | GoChain is founded to build a scalable blockchain with an enterprise approach. |
| 23 February 2022 | GO staking starts. |
| 17 November 2022 | Upbring, a Texas nonprofit, starts operating a signing node. |
| 31 January 2024 | Wakefield BioChar joins as a signing node. |
| 9 September 2025 | A new official bridge launches to move GO between GoChain and Base. |

## Security and audits

- The node software is open source on GitHub (LGPL-3.0 library, GPL-3.0 binaries).
- Blocks are signed only by approved organisations; the public signer list names about 20 entries, including the GoChain team's own nodes.

## Security incidents

No security incident is recorded in the sources checked on 31 October 2026 (the company’s own channels and incident databases): [defillama.com/hacks](https://defillama.com/hacks), [hacked.slowmist.io](https://hacked.slowmist.io/), [rekt.news/leaderboard](https://rekt.news/leaderboard/), [medium.com/feed/gochain](https://medium.com/feed/gochain), [gochain.io](https://gochain.io/)

## Risks and caveats

- Block production depends on a small, approved set of signers (a maximum of 50 by design), so the network is permissioned at the consensus level.
- Throughput and fee figures (1,300 transactions per second, under $0.01 average fee) are the project's own claims.
- New GO is issued continuously to signers (about 44 million a year), offset only by fee burning.

## Questions and answers

**What is GoChain?**

GoChain is an Ethereum-compatible blockchain run by approved signing organisations under Proof of Reputation consensus; GO pays its transaction fees.

**Who created GoChain?**

GoChain was founded in 2017; Travis Reeder is listed as founder of the GoChain Foundation, which develops the protocol.

**How does GoChain consensus work?**

Up to 50 vetted organisations run signing nodes; a block is signed every 5 seconds and each signer earns 7 GO per block.

**Is there a maximum supply of GO?**

No cap is stated in the sources used here; about 44 million GO are issued to signers each year and all gas fees are burned.

## How voting works

Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
