## What is Goldcoin

Goldcoin (GLC) is an open-source cash payment cryptocurrency on its own proof-of-work chain, launched in May 2013 as a fork of Feathercoin. Since 2026 GLC also exists as a token on Solana and Robinhood Chain.

## Network and consensus

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Layer 1 proof-of-work chain; also a token on Solana and Robinhood Chain. |
| Consensus | Proof of work with the Scrypt algorithm. |
| Launched | 14 May 2013 on the bitcointalk.org forum; originally forked from Feathercoin. |
| Block time | 2-minute block target (2.5 minutes up to block 44,999); difficulty retargets every block. |
| Capacity | 32 MB blocks; the project states 1,120 transactions per second. |
| Fees | Transactions are free by default; a small fee buys miner priority under heavy traffic. |
| Attack protection | The chain uses its own 'Golden River' difficulty algorithm and a dual 51% defense system. |

## Supply and issuance

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Maximum supply | 1,172,245,700 GLC total coins. |
| Issuance | Block reward of 3 GLC from block 1,468,200, then reduced each year by a formula; block rewards end in 2100. |
| Treasury | In August 2026 one billion GLC was locked on-chain in two hundred 5-million-GLC tranches. |
| Treasury release | The locked treasury is released on a fixed annual schedule enforced by consensus. |

## What GLC is used for

- GLC is used as a peer-to-peer cash payment currency.
- Miners receive GLC block rewards for securing the proof-of-work chain.

## Who develops and governs Goldcoin

- **Developer**: An international community of volunteers maintains the project; anyone can contribute.
- **Open source**: Free software under the MIT license; code on GitHub.
- **Development model**: The README says AI agents do most coding and release engineering, with humans approving releases.
- **Foundation**: The roadmap marks the setting up of a Goldcoin Foundation (Q4 2024) as completed; no entity is named.

## History

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 14 May 2013 | Goldcoin launched on the bitcointalk.org forum, originally forked from Feathercoin. |
| 24 July 2026 | Goldcoin Core v0.17.0-beta1, a rewrite of the client, was released as a public beta; it fixes a critical consensus bug. |
| August 2026 | One billion GLC was locked on-chain as a treasury in two hundred 5-million-GLC tranches. |
| 2026 | GLC launched as a token on Solana and Robinhood Chain. |

## Security and audits

- The chain uses a dual 51% defense system and automated checkpointing; the v0.17.0 client rewrote the 51% defense system.
- The v0.17.0-beta1 release notes say it fixes a critical consensus bug and a wallet-corruption risk on Windows.

## Security incidents

No security incident is recorded in the sources checked on 1 November 2026 (the company’s own channels and incident databases): [defillama.com/hacks](https://defillama.com/hacks), [hacked.slowmist.io](https://hacked.slowmist.io/), [rekt.news/leaderboard](https://rekt.news/leaderboard/), [github.com/goldcoin/goldcoin/releases](https://github.com/goldcoin/goldcoin/releases), [goldcoinproject.org/roadmap.html](https://www.goldcoinproject.org/roadmap.html)

## Official GLC contracts

| Solana | [GLCzUtuEUJJRBozMrwH3BN5TEy2T7XftGH8TR3yNX5HH](https://explorer.solana.com/address/GLCzUtuEUJJRBozMrwH3BN5TEy2T7XftGH8TR3yNX5HH) |

Native GLC runs on its own chain. The home page also lists a Robinhood Chain GLC token and a separate community memecoin on Solana, which is not GLC.

## Risks and caveats

- Official supply and treasury numbers differ between pages (fixed 1,172,245,700 GLC vs. 'Total Blocks: Infinite'; 1.1 billion vs. one billion GLC treasury).
- The project plans an AI engine that trades at high frequency to align GLC prices across chains.
- The README says AI agents perform most of the development work.

## How voting works

Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
