## In short

- **Type**: Own layer-1 chain for anchoring data proofs (XYO Layer One); XYO itself is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum

- **Risks and caveats**: XY Labs, a single for-profit company, builds XYO and Layer One and is paid by the Layer One foundation, partly in XL1.
- **Checked**: 31 October 2026

## What is XYO Network

XYO Network is a data-verification network built by XY Labs, Inc. of San Diego. It started in 2018 with the XYO token on Ethereum and the COIN mobile app, and now runs its own blockchain, XYO Layer One, with a second token, XL1, for gas. XYO is staked to secure Layer One and earn XL1.

## Network and consensus

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Type | Own layer-1 chain for anchoring data proofs (XYO Layer One); XYO itself is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum |
| Data model | Data stays off-chain; XYO records cryptographic proofs of its origin, time and integrity on XYO Layer One |
| Consensus | Proof of Perfect: competing valid blocks are scored on weighted qualities |
| Launched | XYO token on Ethereum in 2018; Layer One announced April 2025, mainnet live by 31 October 2026 |
| Smart contracts | XL1 pays gas and smart-contract execution on Layer One |
| Runs on | Layer One nodes keep only a recent window of blocks (Lookback Window); older data is archived separately |

## Supply and issuance

| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Maximum supply | 13.93 billion XYO (total supply stated by XYO) |
| Issuance | XL1 is inflationary: minted as blocks are produced and earned by staking XYO |
| Fee burn | Part of XL1 fees (such as base fees) is burned; slashed XYO is burned |
| Initial distribution | XY Labs generated the first 20 billion XL1 in March 2025 for a Panama foundation |
| Contract | XYO ERC-20 contract 0x55296f69f40ea6d20e478533c15a6b08b654e758 on Ethereum, linked from xyo.network |

## What XYO is used for

- XYO is staked (by node and system stakers) to secure XYO Layer One and earn XL1 rewards.
- XL1 pays gas on Layer One, anchors proofs and runs smart contracts.
- COIN app users earn XYO for location data and other tasks.

## Who develops and governs XYO Network

- **Company**: XY Labs, Inc., a Delaware corporation (San Diego); files Regulation A reports with the SEC
- **Foundation**: XYO Foundation, a California corporation wholly owned by XY Labs; Layer One stewarded by the Comprehensive Blockchain Initiative Foundation (Panama)
- **Founders**: Arie Trouw (co-founder, CEO) and Markus Levin (co-founder)
- **Headquarters**: San Diego, California (company mostly remote since 2020)
- **Legal entity**: XY Labs began in June 2012 as Ength Degree LLC and took the name XY Labs on 4 May 2021
- **Open source**: Code on GitHub under the XYO Foundation organisation (created 22 January 2018)

## History

| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| June 2012 | XY Labs is founded as Ength Degree LLC in Delaware. |
| 2018 | XYO launches: the XYO ERC-20 token goes live on Ethereum. |
| 9 November 2018 | The company is renamed XY – The Persistent Company. |
| 2019 | The COIN app launches for everyday participation in the network. |
| 4 May 2021 | The company takes the name XY Labs. |
| March 2025 | The first 20 billion XL1 tokens are generated for the Panama foundation. |
| April 2025 | XY Labs announces XYO Layer One and the XL1 gas token. |

## Security and audits

- XYO Layer One stake can be slashed if a node gives dishonest data or disrupts consensus.
- XY Labs states it was not part of any SEC enforcement action.
- Layer One uses Lookback Windows and Step Hashes so nodes keep less data while blocks stay verifiable.

## Security incidents

No security incident is recorded in the sources checked on 31 October 2026 (the company’s own channels and incident databases): [defillama.com/hacks](https://defillama.com/hacks), [hacked.slowmist.io/search](https://hacked.slowmist.io/search/), [rekt.news/leaderboard](https://rekt.news/leaderboard/), [sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1577351/000110465925](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1577351/000110465925094469/tm2526917d1_1sa.htm), [xyo.network/faq](https://xyo.network/faq)

## Official XYO contracts

| Network | Contract address |
|---|---|
| Ethereum | [0x55296f69f40ea6d20e478533c15a6b08b654e758](https://etherscan.io/token/0x55296f69f40ea6d20e478533c15a6b08b654e758) |

XYO is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum; XL1 is the native token of XYO Layer One and can be bridged to Ethereum.

## Risks and caveats

- XY Labs, a single for-profit company, builds XYO and Layer One and is paid by the Layer One foundation, partly in XL1.
- XL1 is inflationary: new XL1 is minted with each block.
- Node stakers can lose part of their stake through slashing.
- XY Labs notes that tokens like XYO have faced SEC litigation and investigations, and future scrutiny is possible.

## How voting works

Votes are anonymous and carry no text. Each device has one vote per item; press the same button again to remove it. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is voting. We keep a random device ID in a cookie and a salted hash of the IP address to limit abuse — no names, no accounts. Votes are visitors’ opinions, not investment advice.
