This stamp saved my ass. I realized too late that the threaded shaft is 1/2-20 and not 1/2-13, until I screwed a few turns of transverse thread onto my boat's steering gear. Luckily there were still a few intact threads, but not at the end of the shaft. How could I know where to start rewiring to match the undamaged thread. This two-piece rethreading die solves this problem because you can open the die and position where the threads are good and use the die from that point on the shaft so the threads are always aligned. I had a little trouble installing the matrix. fully penetrated the root of the thread, but as I started turning the die it closed and slightly exposed the cross-threaded area. It takes a bit of patience to line up the pins with their respective holes, but it's no big deal. I was able to unscrew the nut with my fingers and the threads were pretty tight. This die is worth every penny if your threads are damaged in the beginning.
