Review on Yale Assure Lock - Satin Nickel Keypad Door Lock by Joe Jordan

Quality lock but I missed a feature

I needed a good electronic lock to replace the Kwikset hand bolt. I looked at Kwikset and other brands of simple and smart electronic locks and chose this Yale for its design, quality, features and overall good reviews. It easily replaced the Kwikset latch and I didn't even have to change the locking bar. But I had to make the bolt hole deeper because that Yale bolt goes a little further. Not so hot what's up. Installation was easy and setup went well following meager instructions and YouTube videos. Based on my reviews of several locks, and perhaps not doing as much research as I should have done, I was hoping to have a set-once access feature. Code that automatically expires after use. I think it's for some "smart" locks. I can always install the code and remove it after intended use, but that's not as secure and a little less secure. Maybe adding a smart module would give me that functionality, but it would also give me more options than I need, so initially I wanted a simpler lock. Also, I don't care that touching a key on the keypad locks the door. I wish he had a special key to lock it. Just minor things, but unintentional blocking is too easy. Otherwise we adjust and it's a really good lock. And thanks to Yale for the packaging. 100% recyclable cardboard except for a few plastic bags to protect the shiny parts. No blister packaging or shrink wrap.

Pros
  • Lose the keys forever: Open the door with the passcode on the keypad and leave the bulky key fob behind. Yale Access Upgrade Kit (sold separately) required for use with a smartphone or smart home system.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
