I draw a lot with colored pencils and always have accessories with me (including an electric sharpener). I bought it mostly for workshops and visiting friends when I didn't want everyone to hear my sharpener's constant buzzing. This manual sharpener is definitely quieter, but it also gives me the perfect tip I need when drawing with colored pencils. I find I now use it in my studio as much as I use the electric. In the reviews that said about pencil marks coming out of the holder, this only happens when you try to pull it out without letting go of the handle. My granddaughter made a nice groove on one of my pencils while playing, but it never happened otherwise. I would recommend.
