I bought this so our house wouldn't be cluttered with trash. This works very well. It's not perfect, but finding the perfect cat litter solution would be difficult. Periodically I pick up the mat, lift the top and dump the collected dirt back into the box. You can also lift the top layer of the carpet and clean it with a hand broom. This size is large because it covers a large area. I had smaller rugs, but the cats used to jump over them when they got out of the box because they didn't want to step on the garbage. With this mat, the filler penetrates the round holes, so cats are not afraid to step on the mat because the top layer of the mat is usually free of dirt. It's not a pretty carpet, but which one? The bins are not attractive either. I keep boxes and rugs out of sight. If I could do it again I would order a lighter color to better match my floor. That was my fault. Again, this isn't visible, so it's not a big problem.
