Review on 🎣 Garmin GT8HW-IF Ice Fishing 4-Pin Transducer: Ultimate Sonar Performance for Enhanced Ice Fishing Experience by Tyler Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works with my Garmin EchoMap 73sv with CHIRP but needs an adapter cable.

I bought this along with handheld kit 010-12462-00 to use my Garmin EchoMap 73sv with CHIRP for ice fishing but note you can also buy Garmin 010-11948-00 with 4 -pin ice sensor adapter cable and 8 pin to 12 pin adapter cable 010-12122-10 for it to work. I've spent hours learning what it takes to convert an EchoMap to ice fishing with CHIRP and wanted to save you the hassle I had to do. I originally set up my EchoMap with the converter that came with it, but had trouble getting it into the hole on a piece of PVC that I attached to my 5 gallon bucket with a pair of mop heads I bought at a hardware store . I got it working, but using this encoder should make it easier and allow you to quickly remove the encoder once I catch a fish. Good luck everyone and happy ice fishing. Updated February 24, 2017 FYI. Garmin tech support really confused me as to what I needed even though I told them I was buying a CHIRP ice giver so I updated my original review with the correct information and needed to let everyone know that there are 2 versions of EchoMaps. The old version without CHIRP has an 8-pin blue sensor connector and uses a different ice sensor, while the new version with CHIRP has an orange 12-pin connector. This CHIRP ice sensor has a 4 pin female connector and I'm guessing due to the wrong adapter cable Garmin tech support told me what I need, the non CHIRP ice sensor should have a 4 pin male connector. If you have an older version of the non-CHIRP echomap, Garmin tech support says you need the 8-pin to 4-pin transducer cable 010-11947-00 with the appropriate non-CHIRP transducer, the i don't have a part number.
