Review on πŸ”Œ Pasow 9 Pin to 9 Pin Male to Male FireWire 1394b 800 IEEE Cable for Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, iMac PC, Digital Cameras, SLR (9 pin to 9 pin) by Josh Reynolds

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent way to extend the life of two legacy Macs

For Mac collectors, Apple is considering whether it's "old fashioned" or "obsolete," I can say that this very affordable cable improved the service experience of both my PowerBook G4 and 27-inch iMac, which is the main reason why I bought the cable. The second reason - a used LaCie D2 Quadra case with lots of ports, including FireWire 800 - came to mind a few days after I had already ordered the cable. After taking the cable out of the box and connecting it to the aforementioned computers and hard drive, the drive responded almost immediately. Copying 14GB of data took 5 to 10 minutes, while it took 15 to 20 minutes with FireWire 400 and over an hour with USB. With the activatable Target Disk Mode. By holding down "T" while turning on my Mac, I can quickly and easily back up my PowerBook or transfer data without opening the PowerBook lid and damaging anything. All in all a very good cheap cable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a FireWire 800 cable but doesn't already have one or needs a replacement.

Pros
  • FireWire 800 and 1394b compliant Plug and play, hot-swappable, allows FireWire devices to be plugged in and unplugged without shutting down the computer
Cons
  • Requires a power outlet
