Works great until it gets too hot

I've used this cable with Bose headphones for several months with no problems. Then one day the headphone jack got very hot and my laptop reported that it had disconnected the USB device due to over-current. I suspect that there must be a short in the cable. I'll buy a new one and see if the problem persists. If so, the issue may be with the headphones and I will remove this review.
