This lens is near perfect. I've always loved the 85/90mm focal length as a regular lens (I'm an introvert). The problem has always been the very limited focusing distance with typical 85mm lenses, especially as they are advertised as 'portrait' lenses. Head and shoulders, that's about it with the focus distance on most 85mm lenses including the Nikon Stellar 1.8 and 1.4. I had both as well as a 105mm Nikkor Makro 2.8 in the latest version and manual focus. I liked the ability to focus close, but never liked the 105 as a portrait or landscape lens. I had a Tamron 90mm back in the Pentax film days and liked it, but sold it when I switched to Nikon. Last year I gave up Nikon lenses and bought a Tamron 45mm. He impressed me so much that I started looking around for other Tamron optics, saved a dime and after a long search bought a 90mm. Having had bad experiences with Sigma lenses, I didn't want to try third-party optics. I almost bought a Tamron dock, but I'm happy to report that on my D750, at least, both lenses are sharp out of the box. The bokeh on this 90mm is creamy, the focus is fast and the sharpness is amazing. I am more than happy with this lens and doubt I will ever buy another Nikkor lens after experiencing the superior performance (SP) of the Tamron range. However, I feel that for 90 percent of my work, my needs are pretty much covered by the Nikkor 24mm f/1.8 and Tamron 45 and 90 lenses. The D750's balance is excellent and they work flawlessly for the most part. I had a moment where the D750 wouldn't fire and went into failure mode with Tamron. I changed the batteries and removed the lens but it still didn't help. Put Nikkor, earned. Plugged the Tamron back in and it worked the rest of the day. My D750 is notorious for this, so I don't attribute it to the lens, but to the electronics in the camera. The stabilization on this lens is great, but remember that it's useless with a moving subject. This is where f/2 really helps. I dream of a Tamron 135 f/1.8 that can compete with the Sigma Art lens. This is another focal length that I enjoy shooting with, but then again the focus distance has never been close enough to give me satisfaction. My Zeiss 135 f/2 really shines, but only when I can focus!
