Review on ☕ Thermoserv 12 Oz Foam Insulated Travel Coffee Mug by Terra Strickland

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It's not an Aladdin mug but it's "Damn close "

My thirty year old Aladdin coffee mug I got from Disney World is really dirty, so we go find a replacement. Unfortunately I found out that the original Aladdin mug is no longer made. This mug appears to be a clone of the original (expiry date?) so I bought it. When it arrived I compared it to my Aladdin and they seem almost the same. The caps are slightly different, but they are interchangeable. So they look the same, the question is if they work the same. To test this, I filled each with boiling water and snapped the lids open. Using an instant-read thermometer inserted into the drinking hole, I measured the temperature of the water in both cups as 199 degrees Fahrenheit. An hour later I measured the temperature of the water again. The original Aladdin was 147 degrees. The new clone cup was 144 degrees. Maybe all the coffee stains in the original Aladdin insulated it a little better? I was hoping that thirty years from now they would have developed a better isolator but that doesn't seem to be the case. However, the new mug works better than other mugs I've recently bought in this price range. Today's "super insulated" mugs are better insulated, but they are made of metal and cannot be microwaved. If your coffee isn't hot enough with this mug, pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds and voila, hot coffee. UPDATE: OK, I found the bug. Had to downgrade to four stars. A new lid is a new design, and that's bad. The pull tab is at a 90 degree angle to the drinking hole so it gets in the way of your thumb when lifting the mug to drink. This works fine if you're left-handed, but unfortunately I'm right-handed. The old lid had the tongue 180 degrees from the drinking hole, so the old lid was double sided. Fortunately, the old and new caps are interchangeable. this. You can still use your old lid if you have one. Another solution is to just take a knife and cut off the burr on the new cap. The lid can be easily removed without it.

Pros
  • Storage and organization
Cons
  • I don't really like anything, it's ok
