Review on πŸ–ŒοΈ Water-Resistant Wax Pastels, 15 Color Set: Neocolor I - Bold and Versatile Artistic Tools by Kara Torres

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I wish I had bought them years ago.

I have had Neocolor II (water soluble) for years and love them but was hesitant to buy these as I wondered how different they were from colored pencils. I finally bit the bullet when I saw a used set for a lower than usual price here at Revain. I wish I had received a few years ago! These are essentially colored pencils, but they lay out perfectly and have more vibrant colors. They're supposed to be lightfast (I'd love to find a chart online), which would be nice, although I think I'll be using them primarily for journaling and sketching in notebooks. They can be combined with matching neocolor II colors and are therefore very versatile. They're expensive, but so much fun to work with that I'll probably buy more over time and wouldn't mind paying full price. Note: These are probably overkill for kids under 12, and I don't know if I recommend them for colorists because they're actually crayons - they can't color in minute detail. I think that because of this they will encourage me to draw more freely and expressively and I want to repeat that I really like them. ETA: They don't seem to break much with normal use, but they do break if you fall. She! Be careful. I broke my Buffy Pencil today. but not that bad. and I dropped the whole set and nothing else broke.

Pros
  • Waterproof wax pastels can be used dry, heated for encaustic or wax resist technique with watercolors
Cons
  • Infinitely slow
