Bought on a whim, didn't expect great results for around $20 but pleasantly surprised. Having already had some experience and knowledge of preamp circuitry, I didn't test it plugged directly into a mic because for $20 you don't get a high-quality, high-gain, pristine-sounding output signal. Instead, I connected it to the output of my analog mixer (Mackie 1402 VLZ-PRO) and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Of course, my mixer's output clipped the adapter's input slightly, so I had to turn it down, but that only improved the signal-to-noise ratio. I didn't do extensive testing as I needed to use this right away, but on a quick test I heard no noise from the XLR to USB adapter. The mixer/USB interface combo allows me to use any microphone as an input and, if I want, clip the USB output. It would be nice if the converter was 24-bit (with a wider dynamic range) instead of just 16-bit, but given the cost I'd be surprised if it was 24-bit. Very satisfied.
