Actually had to buy this for a friend after it broke. He had one in his car and liked it and told me I could plug in my phone and turn on the music. When we got to the store and left, I forgot to turn it off and left with the phone. The cable IMMEDIATELY broke irrevocably at the box in the middle. $20 out of pocket for a small tug. This box is definitely a weak point, so I'd say the cable can't withstand a harsh environment. It belongs on the table, or on the shelf, or some other place where it won't be dragged.
