My laptop has a difficult relationship with my Sony receiver when using HDMI audio. Sometimes this works great; other times it just doesn't work at all. So when the audio drops out, I go back to the good old headphone jack on my device (remember those?). The problem is that while it works reasonably well as an audio input, there is a very noticeable "hiss" in the audio. This only gets worse when I have a quiet colleague on a conference call and I really have to turn up the volume to hear them. This device has eliminated that annoying hiss. I can now use the analog input and headphones without the major audio quality issues I had before. Pretty damn easy to use (it doesn't matter which end goes where). It's a cheap solution to a complex problem.
