This rating relates to the Zeiss 50/2.8 Fuji X-Mount lens. It is made in Japan. I shoot with Fuji X-T4 and Fuji X-T200. Bought this lens for street photography, portraits and close-ups. All lens functions work correctly with both cameras. Aperture clicks are more positive than Fuji lenses. It weighs 10 ounces. I've been using Zeiss lenses since my Zeiss Ikon Contina Folding 45mm/f2.8 Tessar. They then used Contax cameras with lenses made by Zeiss (Japanese). I think Zeiss lenses are well thought out, both optically and mechanically. This lens is no exception. The aperture is multi-valved and almost round when closed. Rotating the focus ring shifts the depth of field to a different point. The lens must be powered (i.e. the shutter button must be pressed halfway) for the focus ring to work. There are negative reviews about this lens that I can't agree with. That lens alone isn't going to perform at its best if the camera body doesn't have the capabilities to do it. Here are my observations. I find the noise level of the focus motor to be similar to other Fuji lenses. If the noise is unacceptable, the videographer has the option of using an external microphone, which is best placed off-camera. Lens noise is irrelevant for photos. I use an electronic shutter to eliminate vibration when shooting close-ups. Other vibrations are eliminated by the Camera Shake Compensator. I get clear and sharp results. This lens (or any other) will not focus if the scene has low contrast. Or the scene is near the shortest focal length. The decision to focus and drive the lens is made by the camera body, not the lens. The photographer must use the lighting, either turn on the focus flash or switch to manual focus. Another option is to buy a faster and heavier lens at a much higher price. When the lens works, the results are excellent. colors are accurate. The contrast is easily controllable. The portraits show a beautiful bouquet and details. I didn't notice any lightning. I tested the lens on a few family portraits, a few street scenes, and flowers. No complaints yet. See uploaded test shots. This lens is not weatherproof. This corresponds to 75 mm full format. I prefer a slightly shorter focal length to have more depth of field for scenes other than portraits. I can recommend this lens without hesitation. The price is higher than other macros in this focal length range. Buy and enjoy.
