Review on πŸ”΅ Blue CARL Angel 5 Pencil Sharpener by Lori Aguirre

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Recommended for colorists. Excellent manual pencil sharpener.

Included (March 2021) sharpener with mechanism removed, table clamp. There is no direction. Cons first: * No direction * Cost, in my opinion, Pros: * Sharpens my Prismacolors, Artezas, and Polychromos like a champ. (bites easily into polychromos)* Leads lead to a long, precise tip (see image), ideal for coloring small areas or defining a line.* Easy to roll and smooth* Quiet* Portable head:* Comfortable dandy grip mechanism, but does not always measure when the pencil is sharpened. Note that this works for me 95% of the time. So where has it been all my life? I usually use my cool Xacto School Pro multi-barrel electric sharpener (https://tinyurl.com/dwcm2v8), although electric sharpeners are not recommended for crayons. I'm just too lazy to use a knife or hand sharpener. Enter Carla. I saw it in a video on YouTube and needed a sharpener to work. It took me a while to figure out how it works, but most people will find it intuitive. I got it up and running in less than a minute. I know the word "revelation" is used a lot, but it was a revelation to use it. It's heavy enough that I didn't have to find a table to attach it to and was easy to rotate. The pencil holder meant I just put my hand lightly on top of Carl and twisted with my other hand. It was fairly easy to tell when the pencil was sharpened since the holder mechanism stopped retracting into the main body of the machine. I posted a photo of what the point looks like. Maybe not sharp enough for engineering or art, but great for me as a colorist/map maker. I just bought another one for the house. I no longer see the point of using my Xacto except as a last resort when the barrel doesn't fit the Karl. Very happy with this purchase and am currently watching one of the ones you can set up a point with. This can be useful for colorists.

Pros
  • The CARL'S Angel 5 mechanism automatically retracts the pencil into the cutting chamber for perfect sharpness. Once the pencil is sharpened, the CARL Angel 5's unique design keeps the pencil sharp.
Cons
  • Some bugs
