Various types of fillers can work better with this pan.
I use clumpy litter so I was surprised the first time I removed litter with these bowls it was very difficult. The urine seemed to cause dirt to stick to the bottom of the pot. Because the debris is lumpy, it becomes as hard as cement and sticks to the ground. I volunteer at our local animal control and adoption center and they use stainless steel serving pans. Maybe I'll give it a try before I go back to plastic.
