Jaws have a strong hinge. The most important factor in nail clippers is how well they cut. This cuts tolerably, but not perfectly. The cutting performance is determined almost exclusively by the good machining of the teeth. The surface finish can be checked using several criteria: 1. Sharpness and surface finish of the cutting edges of the teeth2. Front/Back Jaw Alignment 3. Side Edge Alignment Unless the clipper is sharpened to a razor sharp edge, it will not cut very cleanly and easily. The cutting edge surface must also be smooth and precise to provide full counteraction when the clipper gets jammed. Longitudinal and lateral orientation can affect the accuracy of the cut. The upper jaw should be either level or slightly forward of the lower jaw for the cleanest cut. Side-to-side alignment is one of the key factors, as misalignment here will cause one side to close slightly earlier than the other, resulting in good cutting performance on just one side and poor cutting performance on the opposite side. This also means that for a correct cut, you have to clamp both sides of the teeth too tightly to fully clamp them. Life's too short to fight a few poorly made hair clippers. The one I received cuts well, but the side-to-side alignment was a bit off meaning I felt I had to use a little more force than I would otherwise need when using a perfectly aligned pair . I have a small army of these clippers and I'm always looking for the perfect pair. This ideal is a little lacking. It's good but not perfect.
