Collar doesn't stretch which is good for lockdown; very durable; a little thicker than I wanted. It was bought for my border collie/cattle mix. He goes from being soft and timid to having a very strong prey drive when small animals pass under his head. It has a history of slipping out of softer martingale collars. The large chain and nylon weight felt very heavy, even too heavy. In fact, it holds the collar in place and won't let go once the leash is slack. He lets go quickly, but doesn't allow the dog to pull back in a split second when slacked. The plastic buckle allows you to put the collar on the dog without putting pressure on the head and ears. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it met my needs. I have 4 herding dogs that are trained for obedience, rally, agility and herding competitions and the collars are primarily for emergency safety, nothing more.
