Review on πŸ” Solder Fume Extractor: Aoyue AO486 Benchtop Solder Absorber by Steven Loy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good for your health

Practical for the workplace - sucks in soldering fumes and I set it up so that it is thrown out the window next to the table. This is an overview of the exhaust chimney version. The respiratory reaction to the soldering fumes was more than I expected - sore throat and coughing. I don't know why, maybe I only use lead-free flux and higher temperatures increase flux fumes, but I still had to do something about it. It has reasonable suction when soldered directly underneath. A small battery powered torch is also useful, although not as bright. I was also given a P95 fan mask just for extra safety and with this combination I can work safely with no harm to my lungs or health. And also, at least with the ventilated version, there was no smell of plastic either when opening the box or when the engine was running. Everything is OK.

Pros
  • Quiet and yet powerful
Cons
  • No instructions
