Review on 🐠 AquaClear 30-Gallon Aquarium Ammonia Remover, Pack of 3 by Kimberly Jackson

Ammonia did not decrease.

I have a new tank and am struggling to get my ammonia level down to 4+ ppm. Big water changes can only bring it down to 3-4 ppm and my cycle won't start. So I bought these for my AquaClear 30 filter (10 gallon tank only). After 4 days of work, it is still not below 3-4 ppm. Thinking maybe the first gasket was saturated, I replaced it with a new one. I waited another 3 days and still couldn't lower my ammonia levels. Eventually I went to my LFS and bought a jar of loose zeolite. According to the directions, it's 1/4 cup per 10 gallons, which is less than what's in those bags. I put it in a bag and put it in the filter and within 24 hours the ammonia levels started to drop. I waited another day or two and updated it and this morning my levels dropped to 1ppm. I don't know if it matters, but the granules in these bags are really good, while the granules in the zeolite bucket are bigger. I would have thought smaller was better due to the larger surface area, but that didn't work for me. Maybe keep them in a tank with a small charge of ammonia. But if you're trying to use them during an ammonia crisis, you might want to look into a freestanding zeolite. I hope my ammonia levels are now within range and my cycle will start. Who would have thought that an aquarium could be such a headache!
