Review on AccuSharp 015C: Diamond-Honed Tungsten Carbide Sharpener Multipack - Restore and Hone Blades of Knives, Garden Tools, and Scissors Effortlessly by Ruth Reiners

Revainrating 4 out of 5

fifty-fifty . beautiful.

I read the reviews and thought this sharpener would fill all my needs. The scissor sharpener (read how to tilt your head slightly and make sure you're sharpening the correct side of the blade) worked really well once I got the hang of it. They came out sharp from tip to root and I had rat clippers to try. Now I can actually cut paper with it. Then I moved on to my knives. This is where I encountered problems. It doesn't seem to have the edge sharpness I was hoping for. I've tried them on a few kitchen paring knives and no matter how hard I tried, they didn't seem to produce REALLY sharp edges. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Don't get me wrong, they're finally sharp, but not as sharp as my fingers are used to when I'm handling my Cutco knives. Maybe it's the kind of blade metal he was trying to sharpen. I wanted my Cutco straight blade knives to stay razor sharp between uses until it was time to send them back to the factory (once a year) for free professional sharpening of straight and serrated knives. So I'll keep practicing, but I don't think the knife sharpener in the pack is for me. The scissors turned out quite well, in the spring I will try a sharpener for garden tools. So I'm only giving it 3 stars for now. ---------- UPDATE FEBRUARY 12, 2013 --------- Well, looks like I didn't hold the knife at the right angle to the sharpener. After studying the instructions and practicing further, this sharpener became my "TRANSITION" sharpener and was finally able to get the sharpness I was hoping for. Until something better comes along, this will be fine. I upgraded it to 4 stars.
