In the spirit of disclosure, I fully support the EGO lawn equipment ecosystem. All EGO tools use the same exorbitantly expensive batteries, but once you've taken the plunge, the additional cost of acquiring the tools is relatively small. The STA1500 and even the 2Ah battery will cost you significantly more than the high-end alternatives. So is it worth it? The STA1500, like all EGO instruments (except for an old blower I had), is fairly well made. I have a fairly detailed review of the PH1400 (along with the EP7500/PSA1000 reviews) and I have detailed the main problem with this setup. In theory, the engine built into the PH1400 reduces the cost of attachments, but that comes at a price. The spline drive has some mechanical inefficiency and the driveshaft weighs quite a bit. and much more than the wires that power the motor in your head. When fitted with a 5Ah battery, the PH1400 + STA1500 combo is comparable in weight to my last two petrol trimmers. Choose a lighter battery if you are concerned about weight. This is a nitpick but I HATE that the key marker for the PH1400 and STA1500 is a STICKER! Paint will do, embossed or debossed markings are even better, but stickers suck. This is a LAWN TOOL that will be exposed to moisture, brushing, handling, etc., and it costs enough to use for years. Does the sticker stay? The quality of the haircut is good even with dense vegetation. In my opinion, the cutting blade on the guard is too short - I had to re-tighten the trimmer several times if the line was pushed too far forward. Speaking of which, the STA1500 makes line spooling super easy. However, if you have a lot of ground to cover, it's usually quicker to cut off the excess with a guard blade. I trimmed my plot (about an acre) and used about a quarter of a 5Ah charge. I don't like line spools, but at least you don't need branded line spools. The improvement is average for a trimmer, but not the best in its class. Special Note: A by-product of the gimbal concept used in the PH1400 means you can use the EP7500 with the STA1500. Of course, the applications for this combination are pretty narrow, but I've used it successfully on vines growing on a 12-foot trellis. Aside from the added weight and re-balanced balance, it works well (if a bit bulky). STA1500 + PH1400 is a decent trimmer. As a multi-purpose tool, it's not as good (in some ways) as a dedicated trimmer. However, if you already have a PH1400 and battery, this is a good choice. Conditionally recommended.
