If you are purchasing this lens you MUST purchase the Tamron Tap-in Console first. There is a firmware update that fixes slow focus issues and further improves VC (Image Stabilization). The lens will also work without a tap-in bracket and upgrade, but I suggest you buy them together or plan to buy a tap-in bracket as soon as possible. This lens is simply AMAZING. I'm usually a Canon fan, all Canon lenses. However, I finally decided to try a third-party lens after being frustrated with Canon's 100mm f/2.8L. There is one major benefit of buying from the little guy, he has to work harder to win your business. This lens is L quality lens, the glass is clear, no chromatic aberration, no flare, no ghosting, with incredible stabilization, and you save $150 for a better product. I won't go so far as to say that the new Tamron SP series outperforms all focal lengths, but this 90mm lens is the only lens in the 85-105mm range worth your time and money. I'm even considering selling my Canon 85mm f/1.8, yes it's a fast lens but VC (image stabilization) compensates for the difference in aperture. I can shoot at 1/13 and get a sharp image. When using my Canon 85mm 1.8 I usually have to stay above 1/40-1/60 to be sharp, but that can be just a shaky mess at first. As for macro photography, I've attached some example photos, it's important to keep that in mind. This lens can be used for both portrait photography and 1:1 macro photography.
