Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ NewAir AF-1000W Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Fan, Humidifier and Indoor Tower Fan - White by Chris Knight

A portable evaporative cooler capable of operating in dry climates with highs in the low to mid 90's.

Okay thought I'd leave a review on this because it seems we've been looking for a portable cooler that works for a long time. We live in Southern California near the coast so our high this year is around 92-93 degrees and sometimes there is no wind. It works well for what we need and cools a room of around 350 square feet. When we first got it we tried closing all the windows and just running water - it didn't work and just made it warmer and stuffier. How it works: We leave the windows open. (An open window usually works, but on a particularly hot day we leave two windows open.) Then we add 4 to 6 ice packs from the freezer along with cold water. Leave it on level 2 for a while (as instructed), we usually leave it on level 2 for about 30 minutes, then increase it to 3 and enjoy. Normally the room gets about 15 degrees cooler. And when it's aimed at you, it looks cooler. I think it's perfect for dry climates. Definitely best with ice packs - we change them once a day if it's a hot day. Bonus: Add some tea tree oil or whatever smell you like and it will fill the room. Cons: You don't get freezing cold at the exit of the air conditioner, get the idea out of your head. Consider a swamp cooler that lowers the temperature. I would like to close the windows and get the same effect, but it didn't work. Bulky, can be given an interesting color to match your decor if you want something more stylish. The vents don't stay on, so we used clear tape at the top to achieve this. (There's an "OSC" feature that moves the vents from side to side, so I don't think that's why they stay in place. Although I prefer the vents on top.) Pros: Cools a room for dry climates , especially when using packs with ice.
