For Prismacolor pencils, be firm but with a light hand, don't hold the pencil in your hands and it will sharpen to the perfect point! picture below. I don't spend as much as I would with a Prismacolor sharpener, and with the length of the barrel and sharp point (layers your rough chip paint and doesn't pick up the paper like a three year old) your pencils will last a heck of a lot longer. I haven't had any issues with lead wastage other than the usual issues with Prismacolor pencils and lead splinters when dropped.
