I have a severe dust allergy and have found that most commercial vacuums that claim to have a pre-filter make my nose and eyes explode after use. I decided to turn a shop vacuum into a household vacuum by adding an ultra-thin drywall bag and a washable HEPA cartridge (both available on the shop's website). The only problem was the lack of a moving carpet brush and this turned out to be the perfect solution. Considering it's non-electric and uses a turbine, the brush will slow to a complete standstill if you don't use it properly, but if you use it properly it works pretty well. The trick is to let the brush head roll on the carpet under its own weight. If you push down, he will slow to a crawl. It seems to move the carpet just as efficiently as an upright vacuum.
