After reading some of the other reviews on this knife I was a bit skeptical but ordered it anyway. It arrived in a factory box with all factory instructions and literature. It is American made in Olean, New York. The sheath is made from high quality Kydex and the knife engages with a crisp click and a strap around the handle helps keep it in place. I also have the original USN Kabar release for comparison and it's almost exactly the same. The differences are that this knife has a powder-coated blade and a heavier rubberized handle instead of layered leather. I think I would prefer the rubber grip as the leather gets a bit slippery when wet. Leather. The original Kabar blade is definitely high carbon, and it says here that it is 1095 high carbon steel, just like the original, only powder coated to protect against rust. Everyone knows that high carbon blades don't actually rust, they just take on a darker tint because of the carbon. This dark hue does not affect the blade in any way. This appears to be a top quality knife and if I find anything else I will update this review after I get it through the testing phase.
