Pentax amazing dream book! I bought this lens about a week ago with my K30. I've taken a few hundred photos and this lens is excellent quality. In fact, I originally bought the DA-L 55-300 about a month ago (due to an overwhelming belief that it was optically vastly superior to this lens) and returned it simply because I wasn't happy with the sharpness results it consistently achieved. by him. I've used a tripod, remote control, everything to reduce blur and have been disappointed every time. And it was very big and uncomfortable to wear. Perhaps I came across an unsuccessful copy of this lens. Then, after a long research, I simply decided on this weather protection and focal length option (200 to 300 mm are NOT that big of a difference, by the way). I was positively surprised! The build quality is fantastic, it comes with a lens hood and is of course weatherproof. I've had nothing but great results with this lens, at 100% crop it's the same if not better than my old 55-300 at ANY focal length, which again was most likely a bad copy. Softens wide open as you would expect but not as severely. A lot on f8. It's not as sharp as my 50mm prime lens, but it's close enough for a budget zoom! If you're on a fence, just get it. The value for money is unheard of for this lens.
