Review on Glencairn Whiskey Glass by Stolzle by Donna Taflinger

It's really important to use

I'm quite a skeptical guy. You know, the kind of guy who usually points and laughs at people who think the kind of glass you drink from can really make a big difference. Well, this style of glass really makes a difference. I found out about this recently when I was introduced to the Scotch served in the same glass at a local drinking house and then got a bottle of good Scotch for Christmas. I tried scotch at home in an ordinary homemade glass and it just tasted bland in comparison. I realized that the "nose" was missing (I wouldn't have believed it six months ago!) and that it was all about the style of the glass. If you drink quality whiskey, bourbon, etc., you really should drink from a glass like this to fully appreciate the fancy spirits you've spent your money on. Simply put, alcoholic beverages give off vapors commonly referred to as "nose". As you may remember from your elementary school days, your sense of smell has an incredibly powerful impact on your perception of taste. You may even have experimented with pinching your nose and then eating a slice of orange to compare the difference. Whiskey is a complex drink that contains a wide variety of flavors and aromas. When you miss your sense of smell, you miss out on a lot of the complexity that your taste buds can't. The purpose of this glass is to focus the fumes so that they hit the nose with full force. With quality alcohol that's good. Keep in mind that such glasses aren't just called "trial glasses." You should fill the glass with about 2 ounces of the drink. This is approximately at the level of the widest lens diameter. If you look at the picture of the jar on Revain or on the box, it's filled to the correct level so you can get over it. The jar weighs 6 ounces, so it's only 1/3 full. If you fill it to the brim you will miss the point. Likewise, if you miss it like a shot, you miss the point. Whiskeys are stronger spirits than most people are used to, so you'll need to experiment to consume the right amount of liquid and vapor without overdoing the flavor and aroma of the alcohol. Given that this jar is currently on sale for around $10, it falls into the easy-to-do category. Honestly, try drinking from that glass for a few months, then try drinking from something else. You will notice the difference.
