They are very stable. As others have said, they don't give much clearance to put your finger in between to pick it up, but for long straight hair it's very easy to be consistent. Not suitable for short or thick styled hair. I haven't tried it with curly hair yet. Worth the money if you do a lot of highlighting, even with a tail, the traditional bore comes in very handy. Good weight and length.
