Exactly as described. I measured a gallon of water and set the line. Then I poured out some water and poured them into a bucket. It is exactly 1 gallon medium. Don't listen to comments that say it doesn't work. This has nothing to do with the media. If your tank is healthy it will work. Even cut straws collected bacteria. They don't turn brown like regular media because they're designed to knock down solids if dropped. If you are looking for 1 gallon K2 fluid bed filter media, look no further. I never leave reviews but when people say they don't work they don't know what they are doing. But it has to be determined again
