This is a very good solder wick and a good width for medium sized jobs. It contains rosin flux so you may not need to dip it in flux for really heavy work. The secret to the solder wick is to work from the tip of the wick and not unwind it too much (the "body" acts as a heat shield). Once about half an inch is filled with [damaging] solder, cut it off and start over. You'll get better with practice. Don't start at a point of the wick (away from the end) as this is highly inefficient. I apologize for the nasty verb [past tense]. :)
