Our walls were badly scratched before installation as the top of our gates rests against the wall and the bottom against the baseboards. The installation is designed for unstable gates that constantly slide and scrape the walls. They were very easy to install on the ends of our gates. And even with the same setup, the gate is much more stable. The textured surface of the pad grips well and doesn't slip when the gate is opened. I think all collars are a standard size as I didn't measure and they fit perfectly on the ends. As an alternative to the structured surface, there are also flat silicone pads. We stick it on the wall and put the gate only to remove it immediately. They didn't damage the wall, but we were afraid they might break if left too long, so we don't use them.
