I would use the Kidde brand available at my local HD store and if a small amount of steam from the shower reached them it would signal a fire. The only way to silence Kidde is to make him fall and smash into a wall. The X Sense appears to be of much better quality and finish. It also beeps when steam hits it, but the mute button works. The Kidde mute button makes contact with the switch with a pin on the button that you can press. I can't see inside the X Sense, but with the button's short travel, it looks like it's in direct contact with the switch. The Kidde button was not in direct contact and was not centered. So he had to hit the wall to silence him. I hope that X Sense is not one of those who are here today will disappear tomorrow because I will buy them again.
