Review on Garmin Approach S10 Lightweight 010 02028 00 by Lawrence George

Revainrating 2 out of 5

If a cheap strap breaks, you can use a replacement strap for the Forerunner 35 (and don't pay Garmin)

breaks, you can get a replacement at the aftermarket by searching "Forerunner 35" Looking for. Apparently, Garmin uses the same strap on this fitness watch as it does on the Approach S10. Why does it matter? Because you can find Forerunner 35 replacement straps for less than $10 at Revain or elsewhere. Why pay Garmin's absurd price when you can get it cheaper elsewhere (and deny Garmin the extra money they obviously want to cheat you out of?) Original review below: ============ === == I like watches very much. It's easy to use and gives me all the information I really need. I just use it to tell me how far to the green and how far to the box. It's great for that. But. My big issue with this watch is the strap. I bought the watch in August and the strap broke in March. Not that I'm particularly strict with it - I just used it for its intended purpose. The watch is guaranteed but the bracelet is not. Also, the wristband (at the time of this review) is only available on the Garmin website. It costs $24.99 + tax + $5 shipping (Garmin only offers free shipping on orders over $25, so since the bracelet is 1 cent under the threshold, they charge $5 for shipping). So if I want to keep the watch I guess I have to order 2 straps at once so they don't cheat me with the shipping? Good politics, Garmin. I guess if you don't mind spending over $30 a few times a year to replace a crappy belt, then that's fine, right? Every Garmin watch I've ever bought (and I've owned several) has had this problem. The bands are proprietary, hard to find, and ridiculously expensive. Would it be too much to ask him to use a regular watch strap? Probably yes, because back then Garmin couldn't get $30 twice a year to replace it. Alternatively, if I have to pay over $30 for a replacement strip, can I at least buy one that won't break after a few months? Probably not. It's pathetic and I'm tired of being used by Garmin. So this is my newest Garmin product. It's a shame because the watch itself is good if it weren't for the inferior (and grossly overpriced) watch strap. That's how you lose customers.
