I am very satisfied with this device. The frame and levers are metal, the positioning knobs are metal screws with plastic handles. It comes with a laptop stand and 3 sizes of cell phone/iPad holders. Processing and assembly details are first class. I am currently using the largest phone/ipad holder to hold my knitting tablet so I can knit and look straight at patterns. But I can put my iPhone and Kindle Fire on it. And I think a laptop stand would work just as well for my clipboard. The flexibility of different device holders makes this more than just a one trick pony! The stand is very stable but if I were to use it to hold something heavy like a laptop I would of course orient it so that the weight is on my feet for the most secure position. The stationary arm "forces" you to do this as it sticks out just behind the angle of the legs. The articulated arm pivots from side to side from this "middle" position. As it is I can slide it back with my finger, adjust the tilt of the device holder with my finger and it stays in place. Very satisfied. So many competing versions of this type are worth it - this one really is the best. Highly recommended.
