Review on Logitech Conference: HD 1080p Webcam & Speakerphone for Effective Video Conferencing by Justin Herman

An eyeball on a stick (why not distract?)

Logitech is the gold standard for quality technology. However, this design is not well thought out. Any meeting attendees who've seen it will see it twice, and when it works, they'll go mad as the eyeball turns to look at them. It's a constant source of jokes. Incidentally, the image quality also leaves a lot to be desired. For some reason the design places the camera elements in a plastic bead, so the image is blurry when viewed through an unnecessary layer of plastic eye. Zoom is also a 1.2x zoom joke (really?!). This zoom might be suitable for a desktop, but not for conferences. Zoom is useless for anything written on the whiteboard. No threaded tripod mount. I was able to mount it on a tripod. Another set of comments from the participants of the meeting. The price is good for a tabletop meeting for 1-2 people. It really showed me what I really need for video conferencing, a real PTZO camera. I was hoping this would be an entry-level PTZO camera, but it's not. I found it a good testbed for PTZO operations and to see what pan-tilt-zoom is. PNP works great. It is easy.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Compatibility
