I got my first cat less than a month ago and quickly realized that the open litter box hanging around my house wasn't for me. After looking at dozens of other options, I settled on the IRIS box because it seemed to me the most economical of the non-traditional boxes. I'm so glad I did. I love it! It doesn't look or feel like a trash can, more like a high-end trash can or office bag. You won't be able to tell you're looking at the tray until you're very close to it. Even though it's not completely closed, it still keeps odors much better than an open box. I had no problem with my cat understanding how to use it or not liking it. All I did was install it and place it next to its existing box. Within two days he's gone completely on his own, clearly preferring to do business in a remote, isolated location and no longer wiping his paws on the wall when he's done. I use pine pellets which are great for this crate as they will dissolve with moisture and the sawdust needs to be shaken onto the bottom. I can easily shake this box vigorously as it is lightweight and fully fits. No spills, but the top is big enough for me to pick up solid waste and wash off (pine litter doesn't clump and can be washed off). Very happy with this facility. Such a better option than a smelly open box.
