Review on Super Aqua Power Head 422Gph by Michelle Frey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I recommend these pumps but read my entire review.

Wow! Not only does this thing work, it's also very powerful. I got this in my breeder 40 to create water movement. I chose this size (317 GPH) because it is about 8x the capacity of my tank. Based on my research, you should be changing the water in your tank 5-10 times an hour. I put it in the tank, turned it on and it started spouting water. My plants were breaking out of the substrate (some hadn't developed a good root system yet) and my fish were struggling with the strong current. 75 gallons), it may be an appropriately sized pump. I actually bought another half gallon per hour pump to use in my 40th grower and it produces about the right amount of water movement for my aquarium. Keep in mind that I have fish that prefer medium-speed movement in the water (zebras/glodanios, harlequin rasbora, pictus catfish) and some that prefer medium-speed movement (rams, pygmy gourami). I definitely recommend these pumps. It's nice that you can rotate the exit to direct it where you need it, rather than just straight out of the wall. You have a lot of power. Just keep this in mind when choosing the size you want to buy. Like many other buyers, I don't understand the purpose of the flexible plastic hose that comes with the kit. At first I assumed it was a matter of relocating the inlet or outlet somewhere other than where you plug the pump. It doesn't fit in either the inlet or the outlet. It fits the smallest "level" of intake protection, but what's the use? I also thought that maybe it's for a water change, but it's not long enough to be useful for that purpose. However, these pumps are great for water changes. Simply take a 5/8" ID tube and slide it over the outlet nozzle.

Pros
  • Voltage - 120V / 60Hz
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
