I bought this to decorate my living room. When opening, there was no foreign smell. The corners were slightly bent, one side larger than the other. I put the furniture on the folded sides and now it's flat. Shedding isn't much either, which is nice. The edges are well connected and nothing has frayed at the corners so far. It's about 1/4 inch thick, so I'd recommend using rug if you plan on installing it over hardwood or tile floors. I like deep earth tones and it really did exactly what I wanted.
