Easiest way to get razor sharp tools

I've always had trouble getting sharp edges to cut paper. It makes it so easy. Just take wet and dry 400, 800 and 1500 grit sandpaper and something flat like a piece of glass or a mirror and work on the grit. My planes and chisels glided through the hardwood in no time.
