Leads to sharper knives using 'better' methods

Okay, I know how to sharpen: Japanese waterstones and all. As a carpenter with a lot of turning work, I always kept my chisels razor-sharp at low speeds, a 12 inch water-cooled rod was always at hand. Kitchen knife blades have been made of ceramic for twenty years. This jig is not quite as sharp as my rods. But it's close. And it's so simple and easy to use that I'll be using it every week in place of my monthly pole fumbling. As a result, my kitchen knives are sharper every typical day. These ceramic rods have had to be replaced regularly and are not cheap. I understand with some regret that they now only come out when the much/less used serrated blades require attention. I tried a sharpener with a higher quality than Henkels department store and Henkels a few notches up. The same satisfying results. Stable on granite countertop; the glove seemed unnecessary.

Pros
  • As everyone still does
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
