Review on πŸ” Optimized Meraki MR18 Dual-Band Wireless Network Access Point - 2x2 MIMO 802.11n, 600Mbps, Enterprise Class, 802.3af PoE, Cloud-Managed & License Required by Juan Lockwood

Don't buy Meraki, buy Ubiquiti.

I have some problems with this device. They're prohibitively expensive and only got wireless G speeds. Ready-made consumer devices or general-purpose devices deliver the speeds actually advertised. I tested them side by side. iPerf keeps showing that they are stuck on the Wireless G. At a few hundred dollars a year, the performance + support is pretty poor. They will refuse to fix or test the problem, saying "That's your problem" and "300MB only in test environments". Interesting since I got that with cheap Walmart custom equipment. I've dealt with Meraki support for a month with little follow up and nothing but failure to fix the issue. At this point they are now walking in the weeds trying to get me to PROVE that my wired connections are capable of a 1Gbps connection speed. . They can see they are on the toolbar and they can see the bet line. I really don't have the words for it and I regret ever having bought it. Meraki devices are only worth it if you can find used devices without a cloud license online for less than $50, then flash them and use DDWRT and cucumber wifi you might actually get the advertised speed.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • no insurance
