Review on Rubber Spreader Boots by Taylor Made Products by Maurice Harvey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well made and flexible enough to fit large struts

I bought these to replace aging support boots on my 35ft sailboat. I have slightly thicker struts than most boats of this length so I was concerned these struts would not fit. Luckily, they were stiff enough to stay in place while I installed them (meaning I didn't have to use my hand to hold the shoe in place when it was in the air), but flexible enough to accommodate my expander. The sides of the strut shoes didn't fully fit when installed on the ends of the strut, but I was able to easily secure them with rigging tape. A little play at the top and bottom of the spreader shoes isn't a problem as the spreader shoes don't need to form a watertight seal at the ends of the spreader bar, they just need to provide a softer, smoother surface to prevent the spreader from bouncing. Chafing or tearing of the headsail. We have sailed them for a season since they were installed and they perform exactly as expected. They showed no visible wear when I was on top just before taking the boat out for the winter.

Pros
  • Quick fit over strut and strut end
Cons
  • Long shipping time
