Review on ๐Ÿšด POC Ventral Lite Cycling Helmet (CPSC Certified) by Andrew Cramer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Super light, comfortable but without MIPS and less strap adjustment

The helmet is really light and airy, overall pleasant to the touch. However, for the price and in today's world, the lack of mips is disappointing. I guess it's up to you how important your head is to you ;-) But to be honest I will most likely replace it with another helmet that has it (and there are others that weigh in the 30g range , so probably invisible / still almost as light). The other part that's not perfect is that the straps themselves are fixed in terms of buckle placement - you can just shorten or lengthen the strap as a whole. Every other helmet I've used allows you to adjust each segment of the strap on the side. this. The strap has two sides, right and left, and then fasten them together. However, on each side you have the front of the belt and the back connected in a buckle. Any other helmet allows you to adjust the position of this buckle / length of the front / back of the strap more precisely to you. You can't do that with this helmet. As for me, I'd like to move that around a bit. Not only can I not wear a helmet, it's not perfect either. For one side of the buckle (receiver) that it attaches to, this also means you can't center the buckle as easily as you can't adjust where that end of the buckle is on the helmet straps. So in general I find that the standard helmet doesn't fit my head perfectly. This is solved by leveling it and then tightening the tension wheel, at this point the strap is not really what is holding the helmet in place on your head. These factors prevent me from saying that this is a 5 star helmet, especially for the price (from what I've seen every other helmet in this price range has MIPS). They seem to charge a premium for being light, but for example the medium-sized Smith Trace (with Mips) weighs 280g and the medium-sized POC weighs 240g. The Specialized Prevail II S-works weighs 265g in the large size (so probably about the same as the average POC). something to consider.

Pros
  • Sports and outdoor activities
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
