I make my own trays (18h x 16w x 30l) because my TOM urinates a lot. Despite the tray's height, my cat sometimes inadvertently urinates outside the tray's front opening. So I need a rug that is (1) urine resistant and (2) washable. ) is washable with soap and water and a wonder of nature. The washable part is remarkable in that every toilet mat is washable, including pee mats with a spaghetti noodle texture on the top. However, these other rugs retain the smell of urine after washing, and the filling grains they catch will clump together when in contact with urine OR water. Also, the bottom portion of these rugs will eventually begin to crack and stick to the floor from the aforementioned moisture. Guess what? Neither happens with these honeycomb mats. They retain NO odor after washing (with Nature's Miracle) and will not disintegrate on the floor covering. In fact, I wash them in the bath (or kitchen sink to be honest) with Nature's Miracle as needed and there's no urine smell at all. FANTASTIC! Of course clean the bath/sink etc thoroughly after cleaning the toilet mat and the amount of cleaning required will depend on how dirty the mat is and/or if there is urine. You know what's even better? Between washes I can vacuum the mat to remove dust and/or raise the honeycomb valve and suck up the pebbles that have fallen through the mat or shake them back into the tray. Now for the third reason these rugs are so incredibly awesome, one of my cats jumps in the litter box, which means he goes into the litter box cautiously, but when he's done his business, he insists on jumping out of the box. I needed a toilet mat that covered enough area to still be under my cat when it lands, leaving the filler beans between his fingers on the surface of the mat and not on the carpet. The giant carpet is PERFECT! This little bastard can jump out of the box, but he can't jump far enough to clear the garbage mat. For these reasons I gave this product 5 stars and also because I spent so much time/money looking for it. Solution for my profusely pissing cat who at one point thought I would have to euthanize due to toilet problems or capitulate to a piss soaked house. This carpet was the perfect and ultimate solution. I have four of these suction cups and they were worth every damn penny. As a final note, I also have a black mat and have found that debris is very rarely, if ever, tracked outside of the perimeter. Mat. See photos I will add to this review soon.
