Not for battery isolator switch

I was looking for a good quality relay for my Chevy truck to isolate the auxiliary battery. My stock relay failed, but it was 30 years old. The auxiliary battery is used as one of two batteries in my RV pickup, one in the engine bay and the other in the RV. This relay looked like a good quality part with many good reviews. But when I tested it on the workbench before installing it, I found that the relay coil resistance was only 5 ohms compared to my original which was 50 ohms. When the relay activated, the coil drew over 2 amps compared to the original's 0.2 amps. After activating the relay for a few minutes, it got too hot to touch, so I didn't think it would be a good application for this particular relay. Unlike starter solenoids, the relays used to disconnect the battery are activated for several hours each time the battery is energized by the ignition circuit. Although this relay appears to be a quality product and may be suitable for an application where the relay is operated for a few seconds or even minutes, I have sent the relay back to Amazon for a refund. My final solution was a nifty product from Keyline called the Smart Battery Isolator, which I'm very impressed with.
